If there’s anything more foolish than attempting to steal something, it’s running over the accomplice. A Florida man did just that last week, and he’s now facing charges. The motorist was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries after he allegedly ran over his girlfriend in a convenience store parking lot.
According to Titus police, the car accident occurred as the woman was attempting to get into the truck, driven by the male suspect, after she stole beer from the 7-Eleven store located on Garden Street. The driver alleged began driving away as she was still entering the vehicle through the passenger side door, causing her to fall and get run over by the truck’s right rear tire.
The man allegedly didn’t bother to stop or slow down, even after he ran over the woman. He did not remain at the scene to see how she was. He was apparently tracked down after someone working at the store wrote down his license number.
According to Florida Today, Titusville police say the case is still under investigation, and the woman was listed in stable condition at the Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne following the accident.
It was unclear what sort of charges the driver might be facing for the attempted theft, but officers did say he would be charged with a serious felony.
According to WESH’s website, the man says all he wanted was an 18-pack of Miller Lite. His actions have left his girlfriend injured, and now he’s facing jail time to boot.
